Part C: Equipment & Instruments (Per Schedule)
Part D: Required First Aid Kit Contents (Type 3 Large)
The NL Schedule mandates "1 No. 3 first aid kit" to be kept in the room. Under updated CSA Z1220-17 guidelines, this equates to a Type 3 Intermediate Large kit (sufficient for up to 100 workers on its own).

Setting Up a WorkplaceNL Compliant First Aid Room
Under the Occupational Health and Safety First Aid Regulations (CNLR 1148/96), employers in Newfoundland and Labrador must provide a dedicated first aid room when employing 200 or more workers on a single shift, or when explicitly directed by an OHS officer. This requirement ensures that large-scale operations—such as major construction sites, offshore hubs, large manufacturing plants, and substantial corporate facilities—have the infrastructure required to triage and treat occupational injuries effectively before emergency medical services arrive.
Unlike standard first aid kits, a First Aid Room carries strict facility and personnel mandates. The room must measure at least 2.5m by 3.7m, be adequately heated, lit, and ventilated, and be furnished with specific medical assets ranging from a patient bed and treatment chair to hot/cold plumbing and an integrated Type 3 Intermediate Large First Aid Kit. More importantly, the room must be supervised by an attendant holding a valid, WorkplaceNL-designated Advanced First Aid Certificate (or a qualified RN/physician), supplemented by Emergency First Aiders for every 25 workers beyond the 200-worker threshold. Regular audits of these items and strict 5-year retention of the required First Aid Register are critical components of your broader OHS program.
