Prince Edward Island Compliance FAQ
Are the old PEI provincial first aid kits still compliant?
No. Effective January 1, 2025, PEI transitioned to the national CSA Z1220-17 standard. Older provincial kits lack the specific supplies and exact quantities required by the new Type 1, 2, and 3 classifications mandated by WCB PEI.
What changed in the January 2025 WCB PEI first aid update?
The WCB PEI updated the Occupational Health and Safety Act General Regulations to adopt the national CSA standards for both first aid kits and training. Employers are now legally required to conduct a formal Workplace First Aid Risk Assessment to determine the type and size of kit their workplace needs.
Do I legally need to perform a First Aid Risk Assessment in PEI?
Yes. Under the new regulations, PEI employers must conduct and document a Workplace First Aid Risk Assessment in consultation with their safety committee or safety representative. This assessment determines whether your workplace is Low, Moderate, or High risk, dictating the kit Type and training level required.
What is the difference between a 'Basic' (Type 2) and 'Intermediate' (Type 3) kit?
Type 2 (Basic) kits are designed for Low-Risk environments like offices and retail stores. Type 3 (Intermediate) kits contain additional specialized items, like tourniquets and splinting materials, and are required for Moderate to High-Risk work environments such as construction and manufacturing.
How do I choose the right kit size (Small, Medium, or Large)?
Kit size is based on the number of workers per shift: Small (2-25 workers), Medium (26-50 workers), and Large (51-100 workers). Workplaces with more than 100 workers must distribute multiple kits proportionally across the site.
What kind of first aid kit do I need for a single worker in isolation?
If an employee in PEI works alone or in circumstances where assistance is not readily available, the employer must provide a Type 1: Personal First Aid Kit to ensure immediate access to emergency supplies.
Can I reorder individual supplies or refill my existing kit?
Yes. Employers are required to maintain their kits in a clean, dry, and complete condition. We offer complete kit refills and individual replacement items to ensure your kits remain compliant, fully stocked, and within their expiry dates.
How fast is shipping to Charlottetown and across Prince Edward Island?
