In Newfoundland and Labrador, workplace safety is governed by the Occupational Health and Safety First Aid Regulations under the OHS Act. As of January 1, 2021, the province fully adopted the CSA Z1220-17 standard. This update replaced the old provincial kit lists with a harmonized national classification system. Our kits are fully pre-configured to meet these Type 1, 2, and 3 legal requirements for every workplace size in NL.

Newfoundland & Labrador Compliance FAQ
Are the old Newfoundland #1, #2, or #3 kits still compliant?
No. As of January 1, 2021, Newfoundland and Labrador officially adopted the national CSA Z1220-17 standard. Older provincial kits lack the specific items and mandatory quantities required by the current Type 1, 2, and 3 classifications.
What exactly changed in the Newfoundland and Labrador update?
The province moved from province-specific kit lists to the national CSA Z1220-17 standard. Employers must reassess workplace hazards and equip sites with Type 1, 2, or 3 kits, standardizing safety requirements across Canada.
Are these kits compliant with WorkplaceNL regulations?
Yes. These kits meet the national CSA Z1220-17 standard, which is the exact benchmark mandated by WorkplaceNL and the provincial OHS First Aid Regulations.
What is the difference between a 'Basic' (Type 2) and 'Intermediate' (Type 3) kit?
Type 2 (Basic) kits are designed for low-to-medium risk environments like offices and retail stores. Type 3 (Intermediate) kits contain additional specialized supplies, such as tourniquets and splints, and are required for higher-risk environments like construction or industrial sites.
How do I choose the right kit size (Small, Medium, or Large)?
Under the CSA Z1220-17 standard, kit size is based on the number of workers per shift: Small (2-25 workers), Medium (26-50 workers), and Large (51-100 workers). Workplaces with more than 100 workers must distribute kits proportionally.
What kind of first aid kit do I need for a single worker in isolation?
According to the NL OHS First Aid Regulations, an employer must provide a Type 1: Personal First Aid Kit to any worker who works in isolation or does not have immediate access to a standard workplace first aid kit.
What are the requirements for company vehicles transporting workers in NL?
Any conveyance used by an employer to transport workers must be equipped with a Type 3: Intermediate first aid kit, sized appropriately for the vehicle's legal seating capacity.
When does a Newfoundland and Labrador employer need to provide a dedicated First Aid Room?
Under provincial regulations, an employer must generally provide and maintain a dedicated First Aid Room supervised by a designated first aid attendant when 200 or more workers are engaged on one shift.
Can I reorder individual supplies or refill my existing kit?
Yes. You are required to regularly inspect your kits. We offer complete kit refills and individual replacement items to ensure your kits remain compliant, fully stocked, and within their expiry dates.
How fast is shipping to St. John's and across Newfoundland and Labrador?
Orders to major hubs like St. John's typically arrive within 3-6 business days via tracked shipping, with slightly longer transit times for remote or coastal communities in NL.
Is free shipping available for Newfoundland and Labrador orders?
Yes, we offer free shipping on orders over $250 to most urban areas in Newfoundland and Labrador.
