Saskatchewan Compliance FAQ
Are the old Saskatchewan provincial first aid kits still compliant?
No. As of April 1, 2021, Saskatchewan officially adopted the national CSA Z1220-17 standard under the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020. Older provincial kits lack the specific supplies and exact quantities required by the new Type 1, 2, and 3 classifications.
What changed in the April 2021 Saskatchewan OHS first aid update?
Saskatchewan updated Part 5 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations to adopt the national CSA standards for first aid kits. Employers are now legally required to have a competent person conduct a formal workplace first aid risk assessment to determine the type and size of kit their workplace needs.
Do I legally need to perform a First Aid Risk Assessment in Saskatchewan?
Yes. Under the OHS regulations, Saskatchewan employers must designate a "competent person" to conduct and document a workplace first aid risk assessment. This determines whether your workplace risk level requires a Type 2 (Basic) or Type 3 (Intermediate) kit, as well as the required first aid personnel.
What is the difference between a 'Basic' (Type 2) and 'Intermediate' (Type 3) kit?
Type 2 (Basic) kits are designed for Low-Risk environments like offices and retail stores. Type 3 (Intermediate) kits contain additional specialized items, like tourniquets and splinting materials, and are required for Moderate to High-Risk work environments such as construction and manufacturing.
How do I choose the right kit size (Small, Medium, or Large)?
Kit size is based on the number of workers per shift: Small (2-25 workers), Medium (26-50 workers), and Large (51-100 workers). Workplaces with more than 100 workers must distribute multiple kits proportionally across the site.
What kind of first aid kit do I need for a single worker in isolation?
If an employee in Saskatchewan works alone or in isolation where they do not otherwise have access to a workplace first aid kit, the employer must provide a Type 1: Personal First Aid Kit to ensure immediate access to emergency supplies.
Can I reorder individual supplies or refill my existing kit?
Yes. Employers are required to maintain their kits in a clean, dry, and complete condition. We offer complete kit refills and individual replacement items to ensure your kits remain compliant, fully stocked, and within their expiry dates.
How fast is shipping to Saskatoon, Regina, and across Saskatchewan?
Orders to major hubs like Saskatoon and Regina typically arrive within 2-5 business days via tracked shipping, though delivery times may vary slightly based on specific rural locations.
Is free shipping available for Saskatchewan orders?
Yes, we offer free shipping on orders over $250 to most urban areas in Saskatchewan.
