Ontario WSIB & CSA First Aid Kits
As of January 1, 2020, Ontario's WSIB officially recognized the national CSA Z1220-17 standard as an accepted alternative for workplace first aid kits. Whether you are a small office in Toronto or a high-hazard construction site in Sudbury, upgrading from the old 'Section 8, 9, or 10' kits to the modern CSA classification system ensures superior workplace safety. Our kits are pre-configured to ensure 100% compliance with current Ontario WSIB Regulation 1101 requirements.

In Ontario, workplace safety is governed by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) Regulation 1101. To simplify compliance and align with national benchmarks, the WSIB officially accepts the CSA Z1220-17 standard for workplace first aid kits as a modern alternative to the traditional Section 8, 9, and 10 kits. Our CSA-compliant kits ensure 100% legal coverage for your Ontario business while meeting the latest national safety standards.

Requirement Matrix: Find Your Kit (CSA Z1220-17)
| Hazard Level | 1 Worker (Isolated) | 2 – 25 Workers | 26 – 50 Workers | 51 – 100 Workers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Low Hazard (e.g., Office, Retail) | Type 1: Personal Kit | Type 2: Basic (Small) | Type 2: Basic (Medium) | Type 2: Basic (Large) |
| High Hazard (e.g., Construction, MFG) | Type 1: Personal Kit | Type 3: Intermediate (Small) | Type 3: Intermediate (Medium) | Type 3: Intermediate (Large) |
*For work sites with over 100 workers, kits must be distributed proportionally to meet the total headcount. Workplaces with 200+ workers require a dedicated First Aid Room.
Ontario Compliance FAQ
Are the old WSIB Regulation 1101 kits (Section 8, 9, 10) still compliant?
Yes, WSIB currently still allows the older Regulation 1101 kits. However, they fully accept the national CSA Z1220-17 standard as an equivalent alternative. Most businesses are transitioning to the modern CSA kits because they provide superior, up-to-date supplies and ensure uniform compliance for companies with operations across multiple provinces.
What is the difference between a 'Basic' (Type 2) and 'Intermediate' (Type 3) kit?
Type 2 (Basic) kits are designed for low-to-medium risk environments like offices and retail stores. Type 3 (Intermediate) kits contain additional specialized supplies like tourniquets and larger dressings to handle the severe injuries more likely to happen in high-risk work environments like construction, farming, or manufacturing.
How do I choose the right kit size (Small, Medium, or Large)?
Size is determined by the maximum number of workers at the workplace per shift. Small covers 2-25 workers, Medium covers 26-50 workers, and Large covers 51-100 workers. If your workforce exceeds 100 people per shift, you will need multiple kits to proportionally cover the headcount.
What other items must be at an Ontario First Aid Station?
Under WSIB Regulation 1101, an approved first aid kit is only part of a complete station. You must also legally post the WSIB "In Case of Injury" (Form 82) poster, valid first aid certificates of trained workers on duty, and an inspection card that must be signed and updated at least quarter-yearly.
When does an Ontario employer need to provide a dedicated First Aid Room?
Under Section 11 of WSIB Regulation 1101, any employer with 200 or more workers on any one shift at a place of employment must provide and maintain a dedicated, fully equipped First Aid Room managed by a registered nurse or a worker with a Standard First Aid Certificate.
Can I reorder individual supplies or refill my existing kit?
Yes. WSIB requires that kits be inspected at least quarter-yearly (every 3 months) and that supplies be maintained in good condition at all times. We offer individual replacement items and complete kit refills to ensure your workplace stays compliant without having to buy a brand new box.
How fast is shipping to Toronto, Ottawa, and across Ontario?
Orders to major Ontario hubs like the GTA, Ottawa, and London typically arrive within 1-3 business days via tracked shipping.
Is free shipping available for Ontario orders?
Yes, we offer free shipping on orders over $250 to most urban areas across Ontario.
