New Brunswick First Aid Room Compliance FAQ
Which businesses are required to have a First Aid Room in New Brunswick?
According to WorkSafeNB and Regulation 2004-130, an employer must provide and equip a dedicated First Aid Room at any place of employment where there are 100 or more employees working per shift.
What are the physical facility and furnishing requirements for a New Brunswick First Aid Room?
The room must have a minimum floor area of 10 square meters and be constructed to allow easy access for a stretcher. It must be equipped with a sink with hot and cold running water, a communication device, storage cupboards, a counter, a table, two or more chairs, and a separate cubicle (or divider) containing a cot or bed with a moisture-protected mattress, two pillows, and two blankets.
What supplies and equipment are required inside a New Brunswick First Aid Room?
In addition to the physical furnishings, New Brunswick has harmonized with CSA Standards. Your First Aid Room must be stocked with the appropriate CSA Z1220-17 kits based on hazard levels. For a site with 100+ workers, this typically requires the comprehensive contents of a Large Type 3 (Intermediate) Kit, including advanced trauma supplies like arterial tourniquets, padded splints, and compressible dressings.
Who must be in charge of a New Brunswick First Aid Room?
The First Aid Room must be under the supervision of a designated, trained first aid provider. For sites with 100 to 199 employees, there must be at least two (or three for high-hazard work) first aid providers per shift, and at least one of them must have direct access to the First Aid Room at all times.
Can I reorder individual supplies to restock my First Aid Room?
Yes. We offer individual replacement items—from CSA-compliant trauma supplies to registers and signage—to ensure your New Brunswick First Aid Room remains fully compliant and ready for emergency response at all times.
