Manufacturing First Aid Kits & Safety Supplies
In the manufacturing sector, workplace safety requires more than just basic supplies. Due to the presence of heavy machinery, chemicals, and high-heat processes, industrial environments are universally classified as high-hazard workplaces. Ensuring your facility is equipped to handle trauma, burns, and eye injuries is critical for worker safety and legal compliance. Our manufacturing first aid kits and safety supplies are built to the national CSA Z1220-17 standard, ensuring your plant remains 100% compliant with provincial and federal occupational health and safety regulations.

Manufacturing plants, mills, and heavy industrial sites generally require Type 3 (Intermediate) First Aid Kits, which contain advanced items like tourniquets and pressure dressings. Alongside standard kits, OHS regulations frequently require supplemental safety stations, such as eyewashes and burn care.
Not sure what your facility requires? Scroll down to our Manufacturing Compliance FAQ at the bottom of this page for guidance on kit classifications, eyewash requirements, and outfitting high-risk work zones.
Requirement Matrix: Outfitting Your Plant
| Hazard Area | 1 Worker (Working Alone) | 2 – 25 Workers | 26 – 50 Workers | 51 – 100 Workers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plant Floor (High Hazard) | Type 1: Personal Kit | Type 3: Intermediate (Small) | Type 3: Intermediate (Medium) | Type 3: Intermediate (Large) |
| Administrative Office (Low Hazard) | Type 1: Personal Kit | Type 2: Basic (Small) | Type 2: Basic (Medium) | Type 2: Basic (Large) |
| Specialty Needs (All Worker Counts) | Add: Emergency Eyewash Stations (if chemical/dust risks exist), Burn Kits (if welding/heat processes exist), and Biohazard Spill Kits. | |||
*For manufacturing facilities with over 100 workers per shift, kits must be distributed proportionally throughout the plant so they are easily accessible, or a dedicated First Aid Room may be legally required depending on your province.
Manufacturing Compliance FAQ
What type of first aid kit is required for a manufacturing plant?
Because manufacturing environments involve heavy machinery, moving parts, and industrial materials, they are considered high-hazard. Therefore, they typically require a Type 3 (Intermediate) CSA Z1220-17 First Aid Kit. These kits include trauma dressings and tourniquets to manage severe injuries that Type 2 (Basic) kits cannot handle.
Do we need separate kits for the warehouse and the front office?
Yes, it is highly recommended. The front office is a low-hazard environment and only requires a Type 2 (Basic) kit. The warehouse and plant floor are high-hazard and require Type 3 (Intermediate) kits. Keeping kits close to the specific hazard zones ensures a faster response time during an emergency.
Are emergency eyewash stations mandatory?
If your workers are exposed to corrosive chemicals, fine dust, airborne debris, or battery charging stations (like for forklifts), provincial regulations mandate the presence of an emergency eyewash station. The station must be located within 10 seconds (or about 55 feet) of the hazard, free of obstructions.
Should we have a dedicated burn kit?
If your manufacturing process involves welding, steam, high-friction machinery, or thermal heat, a supplemental Burn Kit is strongly recommended. Standard first aid kits do not carry enough specialized burn dressings (like Water-Jel) to properly manage severe thermal injuries.
When does a manufacturing facility need a First Aid Room?
This varies by province, but generally, high-hazard workplaces require a dedicated First Aid Room when there are 100 or more workers on a single shift. In some provinces, or if the facility is considered "distant" from a hospital (over 20-30 minutes away), the threshold may be even lower (e.g., 50 workers).
How often should we inspect our industrial first aid kits?
In high-hazard environments, kits should be inspected at least monthly. Items like bandages, ointments, and eyewash solutions expire, and supplies are often used without being reported. Regular inspections ensure you remain legally compliant and ready for emergencies.
Can we buy refill packs instead of entirely new metal cabinets?
Absolutely. We offer CSA-compliant refill packs specifically designed to restock your existing metal or plastic cabinets. This is the most cost-effective way to maintain compliance after an incident or when products expire.
Is free shipping available for bulk industrial orders?
Yes, First Aid Direct offers free shipping on orders over $250 to most locations across Canada, making it easy and affordable to outfit your entire plant.
