Saskatchewan First Aid Room Compliance FAQ
Which businesses are required to have a First Aid Room in Saskatchewan?
Under clause 5-9 of the Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020, a dedicated First Aid Room is legally required if there are 100 or more workers present at any one time at a distant or isolated place of employment. It must be used exclusively to provide first aid, medical examinations, and rest for ill or injured workers.
What are the physical facility and furnishing requirements for a Saskatchewan First Aid Room?
The regulations state that the room must be of adequate size, kept clean, and contain adequate lighting, heat, and ventilation. It must specifically be equipped with a sink featuring hot and cold running water, as well as a cot or bed for patient rest and assessment.
What supplies and equipment are required in a Saskatchewan First Aid Room?
The room must meet all the requirements of a standard first aid station while scaling up for 100+ workers. This includes the appropriate CSA Z1220-17 trauma supplies (arterial tourniquets, compressible dressings, malleable splints, etc.), a first aid manual, a first aid register, communication equipment to call for transportation, and properly posted emergency instructions. All medical materials provided must be strictly latex-free.
Who must be in charge of a Saskatchewan First Aid Room?
The required personnel depend on your workplace hazard risk assessment. However, because a First Aid Room is triggered at 100+ workers, Table 9 of the Regulations typically requires a combination of highly trained staff. For high-risk sites with 100+ workers, this means two Class A Attendants, two Class B Attendants, and one trained person with a medical license to practice (such as a paramedic).
Can I reorder individual supplies to restock my First Aid Room?
Yes. We offer individual replacement items, from CSA-compliant trauma supplies to registers and signage, to ensure your Saskatchewan First Aid Room remains fully compliant and ready for emergency response at all times.
