Manitoba First Aid Room Compliance FAQ
Which businesses are required to have a First Aid Room in Manitoba?
Under Part 5 of the Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Regulation, a dedicated First Aid Room is legally required at a workplace where 100 or more workers per shift perform work that is not low hazard. It is also required at construction or industrial camps where 100 or more workers reside together (if the camp is separate from the main workplace and is not a hotel/motel).
What are the physical facility and furnishing requirements for a Manitoba First Aid Room?
The room must be easily accessible, located near both the work area and toilet facilities, and have adequate lighting, ventilation, heating, and a non-porous floor. It must be large enough to accommodate a stretcher and must be equipped with a sink providing hot and cold potable running water, plus a cot or bed with a moisture-protected mattress and two pillows.
What supplies and equipment are required in a Manitoba First Aid Room?
The room must contain the appropriate CSA Z1220-17 trauma supplies based on your hazard assessment (typically a Large Type 3 Kit for 100+ workers). This includes arterial tourniquets, compressible dressings, malleable splints, aluminized emergency blankets, instant cold packs, and glucose tablets. It also requires a communication system capable of reaching a medical facility to transport injured workers.
Who must be in charge of a Manitoba First Aid Room?
The room must be clearly identified and, during working hours, it must be supervised by a qualified first aider who is readily available to provide first aid. The space must be used exclusively for the purposes of administering first aid, conducting medical examinations, and providing rest for ill or injured persons.
Can I reorder individual supplies to restock my First Aid Room?
Yes. We offer individual replacement items—from CSA-compliant trauma supplies to registers and signage—to ensure your Manitoba First Aid Room remains fully compliant and ready for emergency response at all times.
