Construction Compliance FAQ
What type of first aid kit is required for a construction site?
Construction sites are high-hazard environments. Therefore, they legally require a Type 3 (Intermediate) CSA Z1220-17 First Aid Kit. These kits contain specialized trauma dressings and tourniquets needed for severe injuries associated with heavy machinery and power tools.
Do mobile contractors and tradespeople need their own kits?
Yes. Tradespeople working alone or traveling between job sites in a company vehicle require a Type 1 (Personal) Kit. If a truck carries a crew of 2 to 5 workers, it must be equipped with a small Type 2 or Type 3 kit depending on the province and the hazard level of the work.
What are the requirements for remote or isolated job sites?
If your construction site is located more than 20 to 30 minutes away from a medical facility, provincial OHS laws generally classify it as distant or isolated. These sites require supplemental equipment, including stretchers, emergency blankets, and splints, to stabilize a worker while waiting for EMS.
Are burn kits necessary on a construction site?
If your crew performs welding, electrical work, or operates heavy friction machinery, a dedicated Burn Kit is highly recommended. Standard first aid kits do not carry enough specialized burn gel to rapidly cool and treat severe thermal or electrical burns.
Should we choose a metal or plastic cabinet for our job site?
For active construction sites, we strongly recommend our heavy-duty metal cabinets with weather-resistant gaskets. These durable cases protect your critical medical supplies from dust, moisture, and debris, ensuring they remain sanitary and usable during an emergency.
Can we buy refill packs instead of a whole new kit?
Absolutely. Construction sites go through bandages, tapes, and antiseptics quickly. We offer complete CSA-compliant refill packs and individual replacement items so you can restock your existing metal cabinets without repurchasing the entire unit.
